Reqiuem for an Assassin: Chapter Sixteen

~`Eris`~

A shiver ran up and down my spine. What was that all about? I opened my eyes for the first time in days. I looked to my right. I could barely see through the dim moonlight, but Ezio was asleep next to me. Thanks.

I rolled over without waking him up and walked to the window. It was a gorgeous sky tonight. More beautiful than when I was with Altair on the roof of Leo's cathedral. Was that a good sign? I was letting go. Finally.

Ezio rolled onto his right side and looked at me, standing in the window. "You're awake...?"

I nodded. "It's been a few days, I assume."

"It's been three weeks, Eris. I knew you weren't...." He got up and hugged me.

"Ezio, you stayed with me for three weeks...? Didn't you have stuff to do?"

"Azra'eil did them for me. Dagniete helped."

"That was awesfully nice of them...."

"They said it was no problem. They wanted to help us."

I smiled. "So do you want to do some parkour?"

"What?"

"Running with style."

"Let's go, Eris. You and I both need it."

~`Ezio`~

Eris jumped out the window and landed on a wooden pole sticking out of the building. "Come on!" she teased.

I laughed and jumped across the alley to a windowsill. I climbed up the wall and sat atop the building. "Come on!" I mimicked.

Eris jumped after me. Her hands caught the windowsill and she scrambled up to catch me. She jumped over my head and ran across to the next roof.

For the next few hours, we were jumping and running along rooftops, climbing wooden support beams, and bouncing off shop canopies. We evenually came to the highest point of the city. It was atop a cathedral, ironically. I put my feet on the dome and held the cross overlooking the moonlit landscape. Eris followed suit on the other side of the dome.

"We should do this back in Jerusalem...." Eris muttered. "It's beautiful there. Especially in the daytime, when the sun is just rising over the horizon...."

"I've seen it. It can only compare to Italy right now. Candles in the windows, moonlight mellowing their soft yellow glows...."

Eris nodded. "Lets get back. Azra'eil and Dagniete will probably wonder if we don't get back soon."

"I bet they're wondering now."

Eris laughed. I looked at her. She noticed. "What?" she asked.

"Come here," I said as I took her chin in my hand. I pressed my lips to hers.

She backed away and nearly fell off the dome. She rebounded from midair and wrapped her arms around my neck.

"Don't ever leave me. Keep watch over me like a hawk."

"I'll watch over you like and eagle. Valiant and strong."
