Requiem for an Assassin || Chapter Thirteen & Character Intro IV

~`Ezio`~

"Altair...?" I asked the beast in front of me. "That's you?"

It reared and rushed me. Damn.

~`Eris`~

I woke up from my hazy stupor. I still couldn't move.

Ezio? Were you there?

Altair was.

The bastard.

I felt a twitch run up my arm. Any second now, the paralysis would wear off. My arm twitched again, this time more violently. A few seconds later, I regained feeling in the upper half of my body.

"Ezio!" I cried. Mistake.

Altair-- or what he had become-- turned around instantly. It slithered up to me and bit my neck. I winced.

"E... zi... o..." I said in broken speech. He punted Altair's snake demon out of the way and held me in his arms.

"Eris, are you okay?" he asked. He sounded panicky. I thought he'd been through stuff like this. Why was I that one girl?

"I'm fine..." I said. My vision faded, and my eyes closed.

~`Azra'eil`~

What's going on down there? Were they okay? Altair... just left. Ezio... hugged Eris. And, wait, he's coming up here.

"What happened to her?" I asked.

Ezio looked at me gloomily. "She needs to rest, Azra'eil. Let's get back to Dagniete's. I think... she just needs some rest...."

A tear rolled down his cheek. Was she... dead? No, she couldn't be. She'd been... bitten, I assume, but... that wouldn't've killed her, would it?

~`Dagniete`~

Ezio and Azra'eil walked into the front room. Ezio was carrying Eris. Her skin was pale, her face expressionless. She looked close to-- if not beyond-- death.

Azra'eil walked up to me. "Dagniete, we need to let her get some rest. She may not be dead yet."

I nodded. "Sure. Ezio, follow me." I led Ezio into my room. "Just put her on the bed. Do you want to stay with her? I'll help you take care of her if you want."

"Thanks, Dagniete. Has Azra'eil given you a nickname?" Ezio asked.

I smiled. "Dai."

Ezio smiled back and looked back at Eris. "Get a warm, damp cloth for her, please," he said as he put his hand over her forehead. "She feels a little cold."

I nodded and walked out into the front room. Azra'eil came up to me and huggged me. "Don't ever do anything like Eris does, okay? I can't bear to go through with that."

I nodded. "I won't, I'm not cut out for that."

~`Ezio`~

Dai really liked... strawberries. That's all her bedsheets were covered in.

"Eris, are you okay? Can you hear me?"

She turned her head slightly. Dai walked back in with the damp cloth. "Here you go. I hope she's okay," she said.

"I hope so too..." I said. Dai left. I curled up next to Eris. Tears ran down my cheek. I really hoped Eris would make it.

~`X'esezion`~

"Altair, you hath returned," I said in my hoarse voice.

"I have, Master," Altair replied, his snake-like voice slithering with lust.

"Hath you completed the task I giveth you?"

"Yes, Master."

"Is the girl converted?"

"On her way. The path of Serpentine is a very long and twisted dirt road, Master."

Altair cackled. I smiled an evil smile. Eris was mine.
